Selling Stuff Online – what can I sell?

Selling stuff online sounds great, but what can I sell?  How do I get the products?  How do I deliver them?  What’s it going to cost?  How do I get people to buy?

These are all excellent questions.  I hope you’re asking these same questions, if you’re looking to start making a living in the online world.  They are important!

But the first question to ask is, what are you interested in?  This is the most important question you need an answer to, before you even start.  Can I get an amen from anyone?

What you are interested in is what you will be best at marketing.  That’s because selling anything on the internet requires getting eyes on your products.  There are 7.5 billion people on the planet and more than 4.5 billion of them are now online.  How are you  going to be seen?

The answer is to focus on the niche market you are interested in.  Remember, the Robertson family of Duck Dynasty fame started out selling hand made duck calls.  Phil Robertson’s absolute passion is duck hunting.  Focusing everything on that niche has made him and his family wealthy.

After deciding what your market is going to be, it’s time to decide what you’re going to sell.  Will it be products or maybe a digital service? Selling stuff online is not hard when you sell products or services you know and use.

Selling a digital service has become easier than ever.  You can now join a freelance site and start selling your services immediately.  They do a lot of the advertising for you.  That means you can start right away and only begin advertising a bit when you want to increase your sales.

Hard products (such as duck calls) are different.  You need to get noticed by people looking for them.  You do this by creating a blog.  Then you write about the niche you’re interested in.

For example, imagine you’re Phil Robertson.  You’d write about hunting.  Of course, duck hunting and duck calls would be obvious topics.  But be careful!

One mistake people make when trying to monetize their blogs is to get too zoned in.  If every article you write is only about duck calls, people will lose interest.  On the other hand, a blog about hunting covers a lot more topics.

But there’s another way to sell online.  It doesn’t require having any stock and a lot of people make a lot of money this way.  It’s called affiliate sales.  Instead of selling your own products, why not sell someone else’s?  They do all the manufacturing, stocking, shipping, etc.  You write quality blog posts within the appropriate niche and include affiliate links.  When someone clicks or buys from a link on your site, you get the credit for it.

This is a beautiful thing! You don’t need a store or warehouse in the real world. Everything is already done by someone else. All you need to do is tell people where the products are (your affiliate link) and you get paid a commission for every sale made via your link.

4.5 billion pair of eyes!

So, the key is to get your link in front of as many eyes as possible. Even more important – get your link in front of the eyes of the people who are interested in and maybe looking for the products or services you are marketing.

Even this has become easier, thanks to social media. If you have a following on social media, you could be selling stuff online that interest you to the people who have the same interests as you. Why don’t you try it? They are going to buy these things somewhere. Why not show them where and get paid for it? You’re doing them a favor – and you’re getting paid!

Online affiliates have been making a lot of money.  Why not you?
